Day7 22nd October

Today is fishing day!!!
Not being a fisherman, I approach with some fear of the unknown and a bit of trepidation.
Well, there is no toilet on board (or shade for that matter) and the boat just looks like a big tinny.

Before that story tho, just a couple of pics of our Weipa home, it was nice to look forward to a cool sleep last night.

Back to fishing...
Picked up by David and Michael with 2 boats, 4 people in each.
Stu and I are with Darren and sue and they appear to know what they are doing, maybe Stuart does too but I am definitely a novice.

David takes us out to estuaries and all the locals  haunts.

Stuart landed the first barramundi much to his own surprise.

During the course of the day lots more fish caught to the delight of the fishermen on board
Personally I seem to have a knack for catching catfish, all thrown back to the delight of the sharks. We were also witness to a very large bird swooping down to take one of the catfish.

It was a great day but a very long and hot day. We all survived the sun with no real reports of sunburn except for my hands, that must be why everyone else were wearing gloves.

Our mate David( the fisherman)was happy to fillet all the fish that we were allowed to keep, which made for a great dinner as well.

  1. Liz! By now, a week into the trip, Stu and Darren usually post a snap of their clothes drying on a tree somewhere. It must be time for a wash !! Darren proudly spouts he only ever packs x2 pieces of underwear for a trip ,and brings home one clean one!!!🤣😅😂
