Day10 25th October Eliot falls to Punsan Bay via bamaga

In the morning we pack up, sweating our way through out it and head to another area know as the Saucepan.
Cannot describe how beautiful it is! 








Deep and cool, yesterday the water felt tepid and though nice, this was wonderful.

We split here, Glenn/carol and the 2 of us head back and up the PDR to Jardine river. 




We are keen to see the ferry again, that takes us across the Jardine river. Funnily enough, as memory serves the ferry looks just the same.






On to Bamaga then to Punsand bay camping grounds 




Another wonderful p,ace, cool off shore breezes. So frustrating though, beautiful ocean but can’t swim due to stingers and crocs (not the shoes!).









Afternoon was swims in a cool pool and beers. Pizza for dinner

Day 8 23rd October Weipa to Berti creek via Old telegraph road

As cliched as it might sound, tonight the swag is set beside a babbling creek and I’m looking forward to sleeping beside it.....  but before that happens there’s a bit of work to be done. Bit of a disorganised and later departure from Weipa, little bit of shopping and  fuelling.  With 11 people in 5 cars, it’s a bit like herding cats but we made it eventually. Retracing our steps out of Weipa until we are looking for and find a left hand turn to Batavia Downs.  A private property that provides a track to cut through to the Old Telegraph road. It’s a rough old road but only approximately 25 kilometres so much easier than completely retracing our steps. About 3 hours through some great looking scenery, extraordinary and huge anthills before arriving at Bramwell roadhouse for lunch.  Really nice people but pretty expensive fuel. Day16. 31st October Chilli Beach to Coen River

The tired Frenchman’s track travellers have requested a lazy start today, which we did  but funnily enough we are still on the road by 9am. We choose to be a little touristy this morning and firstly head to the historical village of Portland road, about 15 k from chilli beach but essentially around the coastal corner. It is absolutely picturesque and has a little cafe, which is closed. Back on track and head into the aboriginal community of Lockhart, I was expecting something similar to Bamaga and it is the same, perhaps a bit smaller. The houses look pretty new or at least modern but just badly maintained. Stuff everywhere, not garbage necessarily but broken bikes, cars, toys just left where they fell. There is a modern school and a water park which also seems closed. There is a aboriginal art gallery that we looking forward to seeing but it’s closed. Day19 3rd November and Day 20 4th November Innisfail to Rockhampton and the home.

Up very early and on the road.  We have planned for a huge day of driving to try and get us to Rockhampton tonight. It’s a funny thing, travelling.. but I find once I am on the way home , I just want to be there. I think we both feel the same this time. We have left the crew in various parts of North Queensland, so it’s just us now. It was a good day and we did make it to Rockhampton albeit about 6pm,  we’d had a few breaks and coffees and star jumps beside the car. Stayed at the historic Criterion Hotel, which was lovely and a nice steak for dinner. Up early again on Wednesday, this time with anticipation as we will be home tonight. Another good day of driving, stopping in Gympie for lunch. Home about 5pm, so good to see James and our Tess. It’s been another fabulous trip.  Great to get to the top/ tip again after so many years, the scenery and the memories made are priceless.
